“ ‘Lost’ has an incredibly warm and enthusiastic fan base, and we always wanted to produce the definitive ‘Lost’ concert,” Maria Giacchino said, adding that about three years ago, she and her brother sent a tweet asking whether people in the Los Angeles area would want to see a “Lost” concert. The response was overwhelming, she said. The Giacchinos kept track of who responded and expect many of those people to be at these concerts, along with some of the show’s original crew.

The concert’s existence and the incredibly passionate, knowledgeable fans who showed up for it were a powerful reminder that despite its polarizing finale and “Did it answer enough questions?” debates, Lost is a show that continues to resonate for many. There were audience members from the U.K. and Hong Kong among those asking questions and when Giacchino asked how many people had flown in from another country just to be at the concert, an impressive amount of hands went up in the air.

That mantra came to define the ensuing evening. Lost fans had gathered from all across the world (as far away as Hong Kong, according to one audience member) at the Ford, a concrete fortress that almost looks like it could have served as the DHARMA Initiative’s rudimentary concert hall, in order to reflect upon the show’s beating heart: the soaring score written by Oscar, Emmy and Grammy award-winning composer Michael Giacchino. (As one fan from the crowd shouted out, Giacchino is this close to becoming an EGOT.) It was night two of “We Have to Go Back: The Lost Concert,” a limited two-night concert featuring Giacchino conducting the same group of musicians who scored Lost while it was on the air.
