My journey with AMAL|HOPE began when director Eros Zhao invited me to produce a piano concert in Los Angeles—part of a documentary chronicling the restoration of a Steinway Piano. After meeting the two remarkable pianists at the heart of this story, joining Eros as a producer for the film was an easy decision.

This documentary tells a story we believe audiences need to see now more than ever. Through the friendship of these two extraordinary artists, AMAL|HOPE reminds us of the transformative power of genuine connection—especially with those we might assume we have nothing in common with. Beyond being a story of artistic collaboration, this film illuminates the creative potential we sacrifice when we allow external conflicts to dictate our perspectives and divide us from one another. I had the opportunity to work with Producer Tal Recanati and Director Janina Quint on the documentary Germans & Jews. The film explores Germany’s transformation from silence about the Holocaust to facing it head-on over the 70+ years since World War II ended. What started as a private conversation between two friends—Tal, an American Jew, and Janina, a non-Jewish German—grew into a broader cultural examination that reveals an unexpected story of reconciliation and the complex relationship between Germans and Jews in modern Germany.

I served as Co-Producer and Costume Designer on Monster Challenge, a 13-minute comedy short written, directed, and scored by my brother, Michael Giacchino. The film is a satirical tribute to Japanese game shows and kaiju monster movies, starring Patton Oswalt and Ben Schwartz as they battle in elaborate monster suits on miniature city sets. Monster Challenge premiered at Fantastic Fest in 2018 and was later released on YouTube, delighting audiences with its playful homage to classic Godzilla-style cinema.
